Most commonly seen in yellow, brown and orange sunflower varieties are available, as are a handful of other colours. A popular with florists and flower-lovers around the world.
In the field, sunflowers will turn to face the east, where the sun rises each morning. Younger sunflowers will follow this trend, but may also follow the path of the sun from east to west over the course of the day. Even though the sun sets in the west, the young sunflowers will turn to face the east over night in anticipation of the sun rising the next morning.
- Did you know? Originally cultivated by Native American, the sunflower served as a vital food source and was even used in medicine. Native American tribal women would also decorate their hair with sunflowers. Dye could also be extracted from the hulls of the sunflower petals, and the pollen was used to make face paint.
